Miami Valley Model Yacht Club

Sanctioned member #73 of AMYA Region 4, Midwest (American Model Yacht Association)

About Us

If you are interested in radio/controlled model sailboats, this is the place to visit. This web site will tell you when and where we sail. Look in the Schedule section for sailing information. The Links/Photos section will give you more information about sailing in general and sailing model sailboats.

We primarily sail two different models locally, the Star 45 and the US1 Meter. Information on both these classes of model sailboats can be found by clicking on each class, left side of this page.

We are very proud of our participation both in local events and National events. MVMYC has hosted the CR914 Nationals, EC12 Nationals (47 boats), Odom Nationals, US1M Nationals, and numerous Star 45 Nationals along with a number of Region 4 Championships. MVMYC is also proud to home base 2 Star 45 Nationals Champions and the current US1 Meter National Champ.

Any Wednesday or scheduled Saturday / Sunday event, club members will be happy to hand you their transmitter so you can get the feel for what it is like to sail remotely. Even veteran big-boat skippers are surprised by the differences.

Come one, Come all. All ages, levels of sailing experience, male / female skippers are welcome. Our current membership has skippers ranging in age from 37 to 80+. We also have a number who have never sailed big boats and are still earning the ropes... and we have 2 active National Champions. So, weather you are looking for a relaxing group to come sail with, or some cut throat One Design racing, MVMYC is the pace to be.

We currently race on Wednesday's, Saturdays, and Sundays, starting in April and running into October. Wednesdays (1 pm at Stillwater Garden's Metro Park also known as Wegerzyn Garden Center) are sit back and relax sailing for those that want a more laid-back kind of activity. Rules, tactics, strategy, tuning, construction and rigging are regularly discussed.

The first Sunday of the month is considered RACE DAY! This is the day to bring your "A" game as we accumulate these race day scores to determine our annual club champion. The 3rd Saturday of the month is then our Sassafras event which is a wider gathering of skippers.

This circuit attracts skippers from Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton, and Toledo. Again, this a serious race day with score accumulated to determine a year end champion.
